  1. Role of the Holy Spirit: Life giver, leader, helper, truth speaker to the church, ground preparer: truth speaker to the world, power giver, filler with love, freer from bondage to sin, healer, confirmer of our true identity, communicator, gift giver, fruit producer

  2. John 3:5-7 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’

  3. John 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

  4. John 14:16 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; (so that you will always have someone with you.)

  5. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

  6. John 15:26 “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify (confirm everything) about Me,

  7. John 16:12-15 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. ('He will make sense out of what is about to happen, and indeed out of all that I have done and said.') All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’

  8. John 16:8-11 “When he comes, he’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment: He’ll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin; that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father, out of their sight and control; that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted.

  9. Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  10. Rom. 5:5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. MSG: we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!

  11. Rom. 8:1,2 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. V9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)

  12. Rom. 8:11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

  13. Rom.8:15-17 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

  14. I Cor. 2:9-16 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these thingsby his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

  15. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

  16. (Spirit can be known only by spirit—God’s Spirit and our spirits in open communion. Spiritually alive, we have access to everythingGod’s Spirit is doing,) Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. (we have Christ’s Spirit.)

  17. I Cor. 12:4-11 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

  18. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power toperform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit.

  19. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. (He decides who gets what, and when.)

  20. Gal. 5:22, 23 'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, against such there is no law.‘ MSG: 'He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard, ... affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity, willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion, conviction, loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.'

  21. Evidence of having the Holy Spirit living in me: • being spiritually alive • ability to hear Him give me direction • never feeling truly alone, I have a Helper! • ability to hear Him as Comforter, Counselor • the word of God comes alive as He explains it to us • courage and boldness to speak to anyone • feeling the overwhelming love of God for me • increasing ability to live 'free of sin' • being healed, spiritually, emotionally, physically • knowing I am loved, adopted, a true son or daughter • experiencing open communication with God • becoming aware of my gifts and how to use them • increasing ability to 'experience life on God's terms.' • the fruit listed in Galatians

  22. Romans 8:5,6 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

  23. Romans 8: 12,13 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. !!
