What is fauvism? • Fauvism is the art style that happened in twentieth century, which stressed the usage of quality colors over the representational or retained by impressionism. The leaders were Henry Matisse, Andre Derain.
Origin of Fauvism • Originally, by the inspiration of Henry Matisse, fauvism appeared. Its works were not only made by Henry Matisse, he’s the one that combined the all kinds of art. Initially, this movement is not the unique style of art. This art is the movement that had hostility toward impression . Matisse was very influenced by Russel, who’s an impressionist artist. Because of his influence, Matisse also used impressive color to appeal viewers.
The characteristic • Ignores the shade • Uses impressive/strong color • Ignores the things that is still life(?) ---------------ignores the things that are seen as same as they look • Expresses what they want
Henry Matisse • Matisse, born in 1869 and died in 1954 was the pioneer of the Fauvism. He was the student of John Rusell, who is friend to Van Gogh. Because he was influenced, he used same kind of style that Rusell used.
Description • Woman with a hat is made by Henry Matisse,in 1905. It is also the picture that indicated the beginning of the fauvism. In this picture, the woman with a hat is Amelie, who is wife of Matisse. Because of this picture, Fauvism became famous and earned name as wild beast. Also, it represents fauvism because it used color that is apparent and did not consider shadow.
Description • The murder was accomplished. The executioner stood impassive, his hands on the hilt of his long, blood-stained sword. This is the situation that the picture represents. This is the painting by Gustave Moreau, who was also the pioneer of Fauvism. It is classified as Fauvism because of it didn’t paint the still life/something that is practical.
This is the most famous painting by Matisse, among the pictures that he drew. The first one is painted in 1909, second painting is painted in 1910. The reason why this painting is important is because this painting shows the development of the skills, Matisse had made. Also, it is a large decorative panel, painted with companion, Music. This painting is fauvism because of the strong color of the human figure painted with red, very simplified green landscape and deep sky blue.
