About ACCA • Non-profit environmental organization that is dedicated to the conservation of caves and related resources across the nation and around the world. • Hidden River Cave Restoration Project-- ACCA worked to get new sewage treatment facilities built, helped stop illegal dumping of wastes into the cave • ACCA volunteers have cleaned up more than 50 illegal dumps in caves and sinkholes throughout Kentucky.

Volunteer Work • Volunteer activities include: • Sinkhole clean up in Barren County • Cemetery clean up • Mammoth Cave restoration • Hidden River Cave restoration • Need good hiking boots (check Goodwill), rain gear, leather gloves, clothes suitable for layering. • Volunteers will be working outside for most of the week.

  4. Volunteer Work Note: Schedule of activities is tentative by the non-profit organization upon arrival

  5. Trip Details • Located in Cave City, KY • ~380 miles. 6-hour drive • Sleeping arrangements are made at First Church of Nazerene. Shower arrangements made at YMCA (preferred shower time is after 6:30PM) • We will go grocery shopping when we arrive. A kitchen will be provide at the Church. • Leave UIC Sunday, Dec. 15th at 6AM. We will meet at the atrium (roundabout between East and West Commons). • Peggy, the volunteer coordinator, will have us tour Mammoth National Cave so we can get acclimated with the cave before we begin work there. • Return to UIC Saturday, Dec. 21st

  6. What To Bring • Good hiking boots (check Goodwill), rain gear, leather gloves, clothes for layering • Warm clothing/old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or ruined • Sleeping bags, pillows, air mattresses • A positive attitude! You are there to VOLUNTEER. Please be professional and work hard. Represent ASB and UIC well.

Free Time/Fun Time Suggestions! • A trip to Nashville, TN! • Riverfront Park Ice Palace– ice skating ($8 admission + skate rental) • LooffCarrousel -- one of America’s most beautiful and well preserved hand-carved wooden carrousels • Spokane Falls SkyRide– 15-minute enclosed cabin ride overlooking the 2nd longest urban falls in the U.S. • These are only some suggestions. Ideas are open for discussion!
