Vision… “Outer North – where everyone can participate in well-run recreation, sport and leisure programmes in high quality facilities”.
Core Objectives • Address the under utilisation of existing neighbourhood sports / play facilities in the Galliagh and surrounding area. • Reduce levels of vandalism of the pitches due to quads, bikes, cars, anti social behaviour. • Encourage community ownership of the facilities and increase the community/neighbourhood use of the facility all year round. • Implement active ongoing management of the facilities thus ensuring the viability of the Leafair site. • Develop a sustainable and viable community leisure/sporting/ recreation facility. • Improve the health and lifestyles of people in the local community and build a strong community spirit. • Help to accommodate the current and future needs of local residents / groups, and potential visitors who are / will utilise the sport and play facilities at Leafair
Achievements to date • Erection of Security Fencing • Redevelopment of Leafair Play Park • Extension to Car Park • New lighting for Play Park • New 3 G Pitch and Floodlights • SLA from DCC to LCA on the day to day management of the facilities
Final Steps… Redevelopment / Modernisation of Pavilion to meet the existing and future needs of residents / user groups of Leafair Sport, Recreation and Play facilities
Consultation process • Pre planning meeting 9th March 2011 • Planning Opinion from Clare Mc Grath Planner with Community Places • Visit by Colm Bradley Director of Community Places end of March 2011 • Public Consultation week commencing 6th April
Results of Consultation process • Respondents: 82 individuals & 46 organisations (62 male & 65 female cover all age groups) • 127/128 agreed with the need to redevelop and modernise the facility • Between 123 to 126 individuals agreed with all the proposals (over 96%)
