Put on the Whole Armor of God Ephesians 6:13-20 • Stand your ground with God’s armor • Praying always with all… (6:18) • Prayer: Address God in communication • Supplication: Request, entreaty • In the Spirit: Acc. to God’s will (Jas. 4:15) • Watchful (vigilant) with all perseverance (endurance), petitioning for the saints • Preaching the gospel (6:19-20) • Boldly, clearly and purposefully 2

Pray for Paul…Preachers and Preaching Ephesians 6:13-20 • Paul asked for their prayers,6:19-20 • To speak the right words, 6:19 • logos (word, speech, discourse, utterance) • To have the right deportment, 6:19, 20 • Boldly: Assurance, confidence • To achieve the right purpose, 6:19 • To make known the mystery of the gospel • To fulfill his moral obligation, 6:20 • Ambassador (chosen representative), 2 Co. 5:20 3

  5. But that you may know my affairs and how I am doing… the tie that binds Tychicus, a beloved and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you… Ephesians 6:21-24 5

Bless be the Tie that Binds, Eph. 6:21-22 • Knowing the welfare of each other brings blessings, 6:21; Rom. 12:15-16 • Pray more fervently • Rejoice more earnestly • Comfort with more assurance • Encourage more personally and specifically • Rebuke with caring love • Not meddling (sin), 1 Pet. 4:15 • Unity of brotherly affection, 1 Cor. 12:25-27 6

Bless be the Tie that Binds, Eph. 6:21-22 • Why Paul sent Tychicus to Ephesus, 6:21-22 • So they could know Paul’s situation, Col. 4:7-9 • So they could be comforted, 6:22 • By knowing of Paul’s condition and faithfulness • By the assurance contained in this epistle • God has accomplished His eternal purpose for human redemption in Christ – do not lose heart! 3:11-13, 20-21 • We can follow this example of care 7

Bless be the Tie that Binds, Eph. 6:21-22 • Example of Tychicus, 6:21-22 • Beloved brother, 1 Jno. 4:7-11; Prov. 18:24 • Sympathetic, friendly and tenderhearted – able to comfort, 6:22 • Faithful minister,Col. 4:7 • He had Paul’s confidence (fellow servant) • He had shown himself trustworthy, Acts 20:4 (2 Cor. 8:23) • Such faithfulness is a rare commodity (Phil. 2:20-23) 8
