Katie Winfield Scotland Home-Stay June 15th-28th 2009 YFC Discovery 2009
The Arrival... • I was greeted at Edinburgh airport by Kat Brownlie from the Scottish Federation, and as soon as we started chatting I realised immediately that all young farmers clubs were the same, with one main purpose, no, not a dating agency, but a way to meet some life-long friends. The next two weeks were to follow on very similarly to these first few hours…lots of chatting, and lots of laughing!
The Next Few Days... • Over the next couple of days, we went to the Albert Bartlett Potato factory and an old Clay Mine, with a picnic lunch, organised by the YFA, did some shopping in Edinburgh and sightseeing, including the Scottish Parliament. The other exchangees were; Susan and Will (N.Ireland), Del and Sara (Wales), Satu and Maria (Finland), Sybille (Switzerland), Sana (Norway), and Izzy (Australia)
Time with Our Host Families... My Host families were all so welcoming and friendly and a lot of fun. Nothing was too much trouble and we all had such a laugh! Just some of the things we did included visiting Burn's Cottage and Glasgow, Whisky Tasting, bowling, and pub crawls!
The Royal Highland Show 2009 • It was really sad to leave our host families where we were made to feel so welcome, but the Royal Highland Show was to be the highlight of the trip. • If you want an experience as good as mine you need to simply follow “Kate's Top Tips”!!
2) Take Photos wherever you are...particularly to help you know where you were...or where you're heading!!
3) Eat plenty of Cheese and drink plenty of Whisky...C'mon, you're in Scotland!!
5) Wellies are essential Party wear...and so are Straw hats!!
The Scottish Federation for hosting me so well and making me feel so at home and totally spoilt! The NFYFC for the Scholarship, guidance and the fantastic opportunity. Staffordshire YFA for the support, guidance and kind donation towards costs. A Huge Thankyou to...
