  2. What is Manga? • Manga is a type of Japanese comic book • It consists of comics and cartoons • It is also sometimes called komikku

  4. What is Manga? • Manga has become a major part of the Japanese publishing industry, representing 406 billion yen, or 3.6 billion dollars

  5. What is Manga? • The Canadian and U.S. market was about 175 million dollars • Manga is usually printed in black and white, but colored issues do exist

  6. What is Manga? • If a manga series is successful, collected chapters can be republished in paperback books called tankobon

  7. What is Manga? • A manga artist, called mangakain Japanese, usually works in a small studio with a few assistants
