  2. Media impact • Do you think the media have a large influence on your beliefs? • What other influences on your beliefs and values might also be important?

Resistance to global media • The growing influence of the global corporations and media giants has not gone unnoticed, • They have been accused of eroding national cultures or even undermining them, • Islamic countries for example denounce the Western media for using degrading images of women, • Eastern political regimes (China and Malaysia) fearing undesirable political and moral messages have boycotted Western owned satellite broadcasters • In parts Europe resistance to ‘McDonalisation’ has meant new broadcasting technology being used for the development of more local and regional programming aimed at preserving distinctive European cultural traditions.
