  3. Registration for 2018-2019 Classes Objective: Students will indicate primary and alternate course preferences in order to create a schedule that meets graduation requirements, completer requirements and is appropriate to individual post-secondary plans.

  4. Timeline • January 9th SPHS Electives Tour • January 8thCounselors distribute registration materials in English classes • January 10th and 11th Registration Night • January 16th Completed forms are due to your English teacher on Tuesday 1/16/18

  5. Registration Worksheet • Several courses have already been recommended for you. (English, SS, Science, Math, PE) • Check on the recommended level and discuss with your teacher. • Registration worksheet is used to record primary choices and alternate choices. • ALL students MUST have a total of 8 credits and the appropriate number of alternate courses.

Course Levels • Courses ending in: • 00= Standard • 04= Honors (more rigorous same curriculum as standard) • 05= Gifted Talented Advanced Academic G/T A/A (very rigorous, faster paced, and different curriculum) • 06= Advanced Placement AP level (most rigorous course, college level, curriculum prepared by College Board, take a national exam at end of year)

Registration Worksheet • If you do not list alternates, you risk having your schedule completed last and the scheduler may put you in any class that fills your schedule. • Choose wisely and carefully; if you list a course as a primary or alternate choice and you are scheduled for the course, you WILL NOT be able to get out of the course. • Write in PENCIL.

  10. What is a Completer? • What is a completer? A completer program is required for graduation and consists of a sequence of courses in a particular career pathway.

Notes on Completing Forms • Students must circle on the registration sheet if they applied to a special program. • Students accepted to Sollers Point, their Math and Science will be taken there. The four classes at SPHS will include English, Government, and two electives. • Student accepted to the SPECIES Magnet Program will receive additional registration materials in April 2018. • Students who are 4-year college-bound and interested in the AVID program must apply with the AVID Site Team in Spring 2018. Please circle AVID on your registration form. If accepted into the program, AVID will be added and an elective will be deleted.

  13. Recommendations • Current freshman should try to earn initial fine arts, and PE requirements in the first two years of high school. This allows students to take more advanced courses in these subject areas later in high school. • College Completers- you must take at least 2 years of the same foreign language in high school and you will take 4 years of math in high school.
