  1. Don’t Let Urine Troubles burn you! Here's what you can do about them! Summary: An infection of the urinary system that involves the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). The infection is more commonly seen in the lower part of the urinary system, the bladder and the urethra. UTI is relatively more common in women than in men, and the commonly seen symptoms are pain and burning sensation while urinating and pain in the lower abdomen. A urine test is usually used to diagnose a UTI. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects different parts of the urinary system. These include urethra, bladder, ureters, and kidneys. UTI mostly affects the lower urinary tract – bladder and urethra. If left untreated, the infection can take a severe form by spreading to the upper urinary tract. UTI commonly affects females, accounting for over 6 million visits to the physician per year in the United States. Signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection (UTI) You could have a UTI if you experience any of the following symptoms: Frequent and urgent need to urinate Pain or burning sensation while urinating

  2. Reddish or brownish urine Smelly or cloudy urine due to the presence of pus Fever, chills, and tiredness Pain in the lower abdomen Causes of urinary tract infection (UTI) UTI is commonly caused due to the bacteria E.coli. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or fungal infections could also be the reason for a UTI. Other factors include: Age – you become more prone to UTI as your age increases Previous UTI Prolonged use of catheters Obstruction or blockage of urinary tract due toprostate enlargement, kidney stones or cancer Pregnancy, as the growing fetus presses on the bladder Poorly controlled diabetes UTI is more commonly seen in women Diagnosis Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the symptoms of UTI. Your physician will typically diagnose a UTI with physical examination anda urine test. Imaging may be necessary if the UTI is suspected to have spread to the upper urinary tract. An increased count of white blood cells in your urine will indicate an infection. Your physician may also conduct a urine culture test to determine the type of bacteria that caused the infection and the antibiotics that can help. Treatment Treatment of a UTI is based on the underlying cause. Antibiotics are the treatment of choice for a UTI caused by bacteria. In rare cases, the UTI may be viral in origin, in which case, antiviral medications will be used. Lower urinary tract infections canbe treated with oral antibiotics, while upper tract infections would require intravenous antibiotics. Home remedies like drinking cranberry juice will help to clear the infections faster, but they will not cure it. Our team of experts at Medtravels can guide you in choosing the best hospital and doctor for your urinary tract infection (UTI) based on your location, preferences, and requirements.
