  1. Creative Writing February 24, 2012 http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Love-Poem

  2. Step 1 • Write a page of standard prose as fast as you can about: • The first time you saw your boyfriend / girlfriend • The first time you fell in love – how did you feel, where were you, what happened (keep it clean; remember, sex = love) • If you are currently dating someone, talk about how you feel when you are with that person • If you’ve never been in love, describe love as you envision it

  3. Step 2 • Look through your paper and… • Replace weak verbs with strong verbs • i.e. – Replace the ‘ran’ in “We ran towards each other” with raced, scampered, dashed, scurried or darted • Double check your pronouns • If you have too many, replace them with proper nouns

  4. Step 3 • Pick a metaphor • Choose a metaphor to describe your love / relationship / envisioned romance • Remember, figurative language can really make your writing come alive so choose wisely!

  5. Step 4 • Read your paper out loud with a partner • You and your partner will listen for things that don’t sound relevant or that sound a little off in your paper • Go back and fix the problem areas in your paper • Make marks on your paper where there are shifts or pauses in the flow of the paper

  6. Step 5 • Write a love poem based off the information in your paper • Create your stanzas based on where you determined there were pauses / breaks in your paper • Have fun, mon amour!!!
