  1. Islam, Muslimsand theDemocracy

  2. Necessity of Understanding Islam • Islamists describe Islam as a universal religion: • It is Allah who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), to make it superior over all religions even though the disbelievers hate (it) (Q.9:33). • An agenda to dominate the world

  3. Necessity of Understanding Islam • Islamic way of life is influencing every aspect of life in the world. • Islam and its social and political philosophies must be understood personally.

  4. Is Islam a Violent Religion? • Three basic and rational criteria to blame Islam of violence: • Quran instructs committed Muslims to violate the rights of non-Muslims and moderate Muslims: • Disregard the guardianship of your father if he loves unbelief more than Islam (Q.9:23). • Kill your unbelieving relatives or neighbors (Q.9:123). • Kill Christian and Jew unless they pay yearly life-tax (jizya) to live (Q.9:29). • Kill pagans (Q.9:5).

  5. Is Islam a Violent Religion? • Muhammad’s life and the Sharia he left as a legacy for Muslims: • Whoso desires any other religion than Islam, that religion shall never be accepted from him, and in the next world he shall be among the lost (Q.3:85). • O Prophet! make war on the infidels and hypocrites, and deal rigorously with them… (Q.66:9). • Give not way therefore to the Infidels, but by means of this Koran strive against them with a mighty strife (Q.25:52). • Those who resist Allah and His Apostle will be among those most humiliated. Allah has decreed: "It is I and My apostles who must prevail": For Allah is One full of strength, able to enforce His Will (Q.58:20-21). • Muhammad’s last 10 years was spend in wars against non Muslims.

  6. Is Islam a Violent Religion? • The third reason for the violence of Islam is the violentinglife of committed Muslims throughout the Islamic history: • The more religious they are, the more they endorse violence (Q.9:123). • Islamists have proved to have the right to oppress, deport or exterminate those who do not accept or align with their religion. • If a group of Christians terrorize others, we can say clearly that they are not acting according to the Gospel. • The same does not hold true of Islamists’ hostility towards non-Muslims.

  7. The Practical Social and Political Philosophies • Three Muslim Groups • Muslim Governments • Committed Muslims • Moderate Muslims • Among all only the committed Muslims see themselves as “proper” Muslims and able to fulfill religious commandments.

  8. Governments • Governments, either radical or nominal, have Islam as the source of their nations’ law and government.

  9. Governments • Islam is the Religion of the State. The principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Shariah). (Egypt, Const. Art. 2) • Islam is the official religion of the State and is a foundation source of legislation: & No law may be enacted that contradicts the established provisions of Islam. (Iraq, Const. Section One -- Fundamental Principles, Art. 2) • The religion of the state of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is the sacred religion of Islam.... In Afghanistan, no law can be contrary to the beliefs and provisions of the sacred religion of Islam. (Afghanistan, Const. Chapter One -- The State, Art. 2, 3)

  10. Governments • Monopolized social, political and economic power. • The dictatorship must protect its Muslim credentials. • A key way to stay in power is anti-Western and anti-Israeli propaganda. • It is too risky to show more moderate towards the West. • While radicals governments directly cooperate with Hamas and Hezbollah, moderate ones feel much better to strengthen their anti-Semitism through being pro-Palestinians.

  11. Governments • Opposition is not tolerated. • Opposition means “death” in many cases. • Dictatorship closes the door of creativity. • Allegiance qualifies a Muslim to be accepted not creativity. • Lack of creative communication or bench-marking results in hostility.

  12. Governments • Governments have always been closed to religious diversity. • So fight them (non-Muslims) until there is no more disbelief and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (Q.8:39). • It is illegal to evangelize non-Islamic beliefs. • Non-Muslims have limited life style or are forced to leave or killed.

  13. Governments • Muslim governments are hostile to the western way of life at home. • West’s reactions, if any, are unimportant for them. • They use words like "racism," "Islamophobia," and “Nazism" against western critics. • They are racist and intolerant, yet the West lets them to get away with it.

  14. Because of economic dependency and ideological instability in the West, Islamic leadership has influenced the western leadership highly.

  15. Committed Muslims • Committed Muslims’ goal in Islamic and non-Islamic countries is the same: • Allah is their objective. • Muhammad is their leader. • The Quran is their law. • Radicalism is their moral code. • Jihad and destruction of other beliefs ( and freedom) is their way. • Dying for Allah is their highest hope.

  16. Committed Muslims • For Committed Muslims • Islam must conquer secular regimes at home and abroad. • Sharia must be the sole source of the national and international politics, lawand governance.

  17. Committed Muslims • Committed Muslims love to penetrate and dominate in non-Islamic countries: • Before beginning to penetrate, they learn how the system operates in a society, then they infiltrate and ultimately, seek to bring about its collapse.

  18. Committed Muslims • Obama’s government has employed seven committed Muslims: • RashadHassan, who is Obama's American ambassador to the 52-nation Organization of Islamic Conference. Before joining the White House as a lawyer, Hussain regularly spoke to Brotherhood front groups and defended Brotherhood leaders like Sami al-Arian, who helped Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

  19. Committed Muslims • Hijab wearing Dalia Mogahed, who is President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. On a British television program, Islam Channel, Mogahed defended Shariah law, the barbaric Islamic legal code that treats women as second-class citizens.

  20. Committed Muslims • Azizah al-Hibriappointed as the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. Al-Hibriis also the granddaughter of a sheik, who claims the Saudi criminal justice system is more moral than the American one.

  21. Committed Muslims • ArifAlikhan, who was assistant Homeland Security secretary for policy development and is now a distinguished visiting professor of homeland security and counterterrorism at the National Defense University. Alikhan is affiliated with the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), which is another highly deceptive Brotherhood-linked group.

  22. Committed Muslims • Kareem Shora, who is Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's senior policy adviser. In June 2009, Obama appointed Kareem Shorato the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Shora had been executive director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, a group that had generally opposed anti-terror efforts since 9/11 – as have all the Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups in the U.S.

  23. Committed Muslims • Youssef Aboul-Enein, a Navy Commander, and JocelyneCesari, a Muslim convert who previously worked with Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, both of whom teach at colleges within the National Defense University.

  24. Example of Committed Muslims’ Initiatives • Muslim Brotherhood’s mission in America: • "A kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within, sabotaging its miserable house with their [i.e., Americans'] hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions." (Source: Muslim Brotherhood's "Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goals of the Group," entered into evidence by the USA Department of Justice in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism-finance trial. Archived at the NEFA Foundation.)

  25. Example of Committed Muslims’ Initiatives • Omar M. Ahmad, Chairman of the CAIR has said, "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran ... should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.“ Quoted in, John Griffing, Islamocracy (American Thinker -- January 14, 2010).

  26. Example of Committed Muslims’ Initiatives • Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a Sunni Muslim cleric and head of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, says: Islam entered Europe twice and left it... Perhaps the next conquest, Allah willing, will be by means of preaching and ideology. The conquest need not necessarily be by the sword... Perhaps we will conquer these lands without armies. We want an army of preachers and teachers who will present Islam in all languages and in all dialects At: The Islamization of the West by Dr Patrick Sookhdeo (2010).

  27. Example of Committed Muslims’ Initiatives • AnjemChoudary, Head of Islam4UK, states: "Our objectives are to invite the societies in which we live to think about Islam as an alternative way of life ... and ultimately, as well, to establish the Shariah on state level.“ (MEMRI TV Project, Press TV Iran ?" Feb. 3, 2010) available on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne7z-_RXWeA

  28. Two Radical Groups Among Committed Muslims • Physically violent jihadists • Culturally violent jihadists • Different strategy in the same pathway to the same destination: the creation of a Caliphate, Universal Islamic Government.

  29. Cultural Jihadists • Cultural jihadist: Allah is the best of deceivers (Q.8:30). • They show peaceful as s minority • While your friends, they can help your worst enemy to destroy you. • As majority (sometimes as minority)

  30. Cultural Jihadists • Methods for destruction in the West: • A false support of pluralism or multi-culturalism • Pluralism is a barrier to Islam, but can be used as a provisional bridge for success until power gained. • They know pluralism leads to: • Lack of knowledge, • Passivity and disinterest in one’s own culture, • And eventually to the dominance of the harsher groups.

  31. Cultural Jihadists • Methods cont. • They try to limit criticism • They know that limiting criticism paralyzes investigation, comparison, thinking and decision-making. • They demonize those who expose Islam with words like ‘racist’, ‘Nazi’, ‘xenophobe’.

  32. Cultural Jihadists • Methods cont. • They promote divided loyalties • Islamic law, food, pools, dress, court. • Result: political and social divisions, and collapse. • They promote victim mentality • They blame critics with hatred. • They blame the West for Islamic terrorism. • They blame the West for Muslims’ lack of success.

  33. Cultural Jihadists: More Threatening • Cultural jihadists are more threatening than physical jihadists: • They destroy progressively. • National security establishment is not geared towards this indirect sort of warfare. • People and politicians are unaware of the seriousness of this threat.  • Many are also used as channels for the implementation of this jihad. • Some churches are also open to cultural jihadists.

  34. Moderate Muslims • Moderates in Islamic countries: • Call themselves Muslims proudly. • Majority, but a few, have always been closed to religious diversity.

  35. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • They lack self-criticism: their Islamic (or national) culture is always the ultimate. • Self-criticism is taken by committed Muslims as a plot of Zionism, Imperialism or ‘Christian Crusaders’ to weaken Islam.

  36. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • They have an appealing, rather than real, definition of Islam, twisting words and history in order to: • Secure themselves from radicals or fellow patriots; • Hence, misinforming non-Muslims.

  37. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • Introducing a different Islam • If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear Allah, the cherisher of the worlds (Q.5:28) • This is the response of Abel to Cain before he was murdered, nothing to do with harshnessin Islam. • The revelation concerning Islam is: • Prepare against the infidels (Christians and Jews) whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize (تُرْهِبُونَ بِهِ) them (Q.8:59).

  38. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • Introducing a different Islam • Let there be no compulsion in religion: … (Q.2:256). • Is abrogated by: • I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them(Q.8:12). • So fight them (non-Muslims) until there is no more disbelief (in the whole world) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (Q.8:39, also verses 59-60).

  39. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • Introducing a different Islam • Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity (Q.60:8). • What is “fighting against you”?

  40. Moderate Muslims • Moderates as minorities • Introducing a different Islam • But if the enemy inclines towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah: for He is One that hears and knows (all things) (Q.8:61). • Who is the enemy in this verse? • In the preceding verses 47-60, enemy is the one who does not join the path of Allah (Islam). • What does “incline towards peace” mean in this verse? • It means, if the enemy accepts the rule of Islam, by conversion or submitting to Islam, "make peace with him".

  41. Can Muslims Align Themselves with Democracy?

  42. Islam and the Nature Democracy • Islam believes in favouritism • Islam must dominate. • Muslims are better than others. • Democracy vs. favouritism. • Democracy stands against sectarian absolute authority. • All three Muslim groups have proven sectarian in the history.

  43. Islam and the Nature of Democracy • To Muslims, Islam is superior and sharia far better. • Sharia gives less rights to women, less-faithfuls and infidels. • Democracy vs. unequal right. • Democracy necessitates freedom of speech, belief and equal rights. • All three Islamic groups are, more or less, closed to democracy.

  44. Democracy vs. Evil • Majority Muslims in the West say that they are peace-loving. • Peace-loving people speak up against radicals. • Moderate Muslimsare quiet in the West while radical Muslims are penetrating political positions in the West, establishing ghettos, Islamic courts, parties, etc. for domination.

  45. Learning Our Lessons • Shouldn’t we learn lessons from the history? • Peace-loving Iranians, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Sudanese, Nigerians, Algerians, Somalis, Rwandans, and many others knew the hostility of radicals but kept quiet and lost.

  46. Islam’s conflict before our generation is no less threatening than Nazism and Russian Communism.

  47. Solution • Educate ourselves. • Be brave, speak and reveal the truth. • Stand behind those who have put their lives in risk for protecting freedom. • Understand the uniqueness of Christ’s values in the context of the world and reveal them so that people, including Muslims, have chance to learn that Jesus is the only source of freedom.
