  2. Analyze the Learner • This unit plan will be for preschool age children ages 3 to 5 yrs old.

  3. State CSO’s 1.Language and Literacy-Standard 2 Reading Identifies characters in a story. Understands there is a sequence if events in a story 2.Physical Health and Development- Standard 1 Fine Motor Used utensils and writing tools. Increases hand eye coordination. 3. Social and Emotional – Standard 1 Social Relationship Plays cooperatively Follows basic routines and rules for play and group participation 4.The Arts- Standard 2 Visual Art Creates artwork that reflects and idea, theme or story 5. The Arts -Standard 3- Role-plays and improvises to communicate ideas

Methods, Media & Materials • Will be provided for each student : • Zoo theme computer game • Zoo related coloring sheets • Paper, construction paper • Crayons, pencils and markers • Paper plates • Animal cracker boxes • Play Dough • Paper bags • Cd ROMs • Scissors • Musical instruments • Tape and glue • Nets, tails and ears, stuffed animals (dramatic play)

Methods, Media & Material cont. • http://Learningplanet.com - I will be utilizing this site for print out alphabet letters with the picture of the particular animal of the Zoo for that day. • http://gerry.cabell.lib.wv.us- This is the Cabell County Library website; I used this site to find books that are based on the Zoo and the animals of the Zoo. • http://www.preschool.education.com- I gathered songs about the Zoo and the particular animals that the children are going to learn about • http://www.dltk-kids.com- I gathered craft ideas from this site to go with the Zoo theme

  6. Require Learner Participation I will keep the children active and interested by having a variety of centers opened at a time with the theme of the zoo. The children will be able to interact with each other in each center therefore learning from each other as well.

  7. Evaluate and Revise • I will be evaluating the children throughout the week as they do their worksheets and in their play as what they have learned. • I will also review with the children on Zoo Day to see what they remember.

  8. Day 1Introduction of the ZOO I will introduce the concept of what a zoo in at circle time and ask question to find out what they know, let them ask questions etc I will then read “Our class trip to the Zoo” by Shirley Netizel which will introduce the concept of characters in a story and story sequence. Then there will be music time, zoo songs to go along with theme. The dramatic play area will be opened with a zookeeper theme which will teach theme role play and communication skills. Reading area will be opened with Zoo related books. The craft will be a cage made out of a animals cracker box and an animals made out of play dough which will increases hand eye coordination.

  9. Day 2 The Lion I will reread Our class trip to the zoo to remind them of out theme, I will then ask what kind of animals live at the zoo. I will then introduce the Lion as one of the animals at the zoo, I will read “If I were a Lion” by Sara Weeks to the children. After circle time is music and movement time. I will then open centers, dramatic play area which will have a theme of becoming a lion hunter. Some children will be lions the other the hunter, which will incorporate playing cooperatively and following rules. Book area will be opened with the Lion theme. Craft will be the children will make a lion name tag which will improve fine motor skills by using writing utensils.

  10. Day 3- The Tiger • I will again read “Our class trip to the Zoo”, then I will introduce the Tiger as one of the animals at the Zoo. I will ask the children what the know about Tigers. • I will then read the children “Tigers Our Wild, Wild World) by Chere Winer and John F. McGee. We will then have music and movement time. • I will dismiss for centers, the dramatic play area will be opened in which the children will be able to ‘be” tigers. I will also open the writing center which will have crayons, markers and coloring pages of tigers in it. • The craft for the day will be to make a Tiger masks out of paper plates. • I will send a letter home to the parents to inform them of Friday being Zoo Day.

  11. Day 4-The Monkey • I will again read “Our class Trip to the Zoo” then I will introduce the monkey as one of the animals at the Zoo. I will ask the children what they know about Monkeys. • I will then read the book “Monkeys” by John Schindel and Luiz Claudio Margido. We will then have music and movement time. • I will then dismiss for centers, I will then open the dramatic play are which the children be able to “be” monkeys. I will open the block area which there will be small toy monkeys that the children will be able to build things for the monkeys to climb. • The craft for the day will be that the children will be making monkey faces out of old Cd Roms. • I will remind parents about Zoo Day.

  12. The children will be coming to class dressed as any animal that we discussed this week, I will be dressed as the Zookeeper. Circle time will consist of reading “Our Class Tip to the Zoo”, I will then ask each child about the particular animals they are dressed as to evaluate what they have learned that week. We will have music and movement time. I will then dismiss for centers, I will have a game center open which will consist of the Monkey Barrels game, a memory game which will have zoo animals the poster board game. After naptime we will have a Zoo Party which will consist of different foods for each animal such as bananas for the monkeys and animals crackers for the lions and tigers.
