  4. Voice= Add to vocabulary notebook Definition: the way a writer or speaker uses words and tone to express ideas as well as his or her persona or personality. Example: The author uses an informal voice to make his character more likeable.

  5. “What is cultural identity?” (9) BEFORE READING… • By looking at the features of “What is Cultural Identity,” how do you expect the text to be written and organized?

How do these ideas relate to Williams’ cultural identity in “Ethnic Hash?” • Write one developed paragraph and use textual evidence to support your answer.
