Hue, Tone, and Shade Pixel Me Project #2 Visual Arts 6/January 2014
We all know how to create a pixel version of ourselves now...
Hue: this describes the colour you are using In this picture, I use only one hue for all of my skin.
Hue: this describes the colour you are using Tint: when white is added to a colour to make it feel softer, or lighter Shade: when black is added to a colour to make it feel darker, or heavier In this picture, I useone hue for my skin. But I also created 3 different shades of that hue. I also use this technique for my hair, eyes, and each piece of clothing.
Shades and Tints Can you see where I used a tint in this picture? Tints and shades make a character look more 3 dimensional, and also show where the light is coming from. Can you tell where the light is coming from in this picture?
Your Task Use what you already know to create a pixelized (full body) version of yourself. Add tints and shades to make your picture look more realistic.
How to create tints and shades Use the “edit colors” function in Paint to create different shades and tints. Slider Palette Pick the colour you like from the palette, and then use the slider to add tint or shade.
Size of page Taller characters (64 x 32) allow for more detail, but are harder to do. If you do not feel confident, stick with 32 x 32. To change sizes, go to properties on the menu. Next, change your width (32) and height (32 or 64).
