Welcome to our lessons of Turkish greetings.By the way, “welcome” means “HoŞgeldİnİz” in Turkish.
Now we’re going to teach you some greetings which will be really enjoyable. We’re pretty sure that now all of you are asking the same question. What are you guys talking about?
Well, when we tried to pronounce your words, for example we said benvenuto“No way,we can’t do this, it’s useless, they’re going to laugh to us….”Of course we never give up.We must admit that we should warn you. We’re very stubborn! Now it’s your turn.Do your best!
Basically, when you start talking someone that you know, you say “Hi” or “Hello” or “How are you?” right? Now let’s translate them! “Hello” MEANS “Merhaba” “Hi” is “Selam” IN TURKISH.
“How are you?” in Turkish is “NASILSIN?” WHEN SOMEONE ASKS? YOU SAY; • “FINE THANKS” in Turkish is “İyİ TEŞEKKÜRLER”
When we are glad to meet somebody,we say “nice to meet you” it means in turkish “tanIŞTIĞIMA MEMNUN OLDUM”.
First meetings always have usual questions.the main questions are, • “what’s your name?” MEANS “ADIN NE?” • “my name’sŞEYMA” MEANS “adım ŞEYMA”
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?” MEANS “NERELİSİN?” • “I’M FROM TURKEY” MEANS “TÜRKİYE’LİYİM”
Now,we’re going to practice with a simple dialog.(Beyza and Şeyma) • Ş:Hello, What is your name? (Merhaba,AdIn ne?) • B:My name is Beyza. (Benİm adIm Beyza) • Ş:Where are you from ? (Nerelİsİn?) • B:I am from Ankara. (AnkaralIYIM.) • Ş:Nice to meet you. (TanIŞTIĞImIza memnum oldum.) • B:See you:) (GörüŞürüz) • Ş:Goodbye:) (HoŞçakal)
