  6. Success and Survival Rate of Dental Implant Survival rates of dental implants have been reported to be in excess of 90% after 15 years. Systematic reviews have also shown no significant difference in survival rates between different implant systems. However, it should be remembered that survival is not the same as success. Long-term problems can occur with dental implants, both biologically (e.g. gingival recession or inflammation) and mechanically (e.g. screw and restoration fractures), which are not represented in survival figures. Studies have shown that in the long-term implant prostheses such as overdentures or large span bridges may be prone to significant mechanical problems.
