The 9th Conference will be held in Quito, Ecuador in September 2009.
The South American Conference on Migration (CSM) is defined as an inter-governmental meeting for coordination, consultation, and information exchange specializing on international migration matters which serve as a foundation to formulate and implement public policy on migration in each country in the South American region.
Basic Principle of the CSM: To implement actions oriented toward promoting, strengthening, and respecting human rights of migrants.
Objectives Toward theIX Conference • To formulate a Declaration of Principles of the CSM • To consolidate thematic working groups to ensure ongoing work and actions by CSM, beyond specific meetings • To establish the South American Network for Migration Management (Red Sudamericana para la Gestión Migratoria) • To consolidate the South American Observatory on Migration (OSUMI) • To strengthen operations of the CSM delegations and Technical Secretariat
