  2. Drop out Rate Florida is number 48 in highest rate of dropouts in the continental US…there are only 50 states!

Of those who do Graduate from High School... many are Unprepared for College and Work • 55% of all students entering Florida’s public postsecondary institutions require remediation in math, reading and/or writing. • 94% of students requiring remediation were enrolled in community colleges. • Employers estimate 45% of recent high school graduates lack skills to advance. • ACT estimates only half of college-bound students are ready for college-level reading.

Postsecondary Completion Rate ♦ 43% enroll in four-year institutions ♦Only 15% complete a four-year degree within 6 years of high-school graduation ♦20% complete a four-year degree eventually ♦Roughly half of all high school graduates fail to find stable employment by the time they are thirty.

Job Seekers will… • Need training and education beyond high school if they want a job with high pay & benefits. • That training & education may include • On the job training in an apprenticeship program • Associate degree • Certificate at a technical center But Not Necessarily a Four Year College Degree!!!

  14. Why is this Important? • 65% of the fastest growing occupations require some postsecondary education or training. • By 2013, 85% of all U.S. jobs will require a certificate, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or higher. • Source: US Dept. of Labor

  17. Learn about themselves! Build knowledge and skills! Create and update meaningful and balanced education/work/life plans. Career Development is an important part of a student’s education!
