Distributive Property • The Distributive Property is an identity used to simplify an equation with parentheses. • In general, a(b + c)= a×b + a×c • For example, 5(4+7). • Youmultiply 5 by 4 (you get 20) andthen 5 by 7 (you get 35). Then, youadd the twoproductstogetherand get youranswer, 55. • 5(4+7) = 5×4 + 5×7 • 20 + 35 = 55
