Morning classes begin tomorrow—Wednesday, July 2, at 9:00 a.m. • Please meet in front of the ESL office at 8:30 to get your class schedule. • There will be no classes on Friday, July 4 because of the Independence Day holiday.

The levels in our program have letters as names.Level A: BeginningLevel B: High beginningLevel C: Low intermediateLevel D: IntermediateLevel E: High intermediateLevel F: AdvancedToday you will take a test to decide your level.
Attendance Policy Please attend class every day so that… • You will learn as much as possible. • You won’t have any visa problems. • You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.
Attendance Policy If you miss more than 14 total hours of morning classes… • You will not receive a certificate of completion. • You may be dismissed from the program.
Attendance Policy • Less than 10 minutes late = Tardy • 10+ minutes late = 1 hour absence • 3 Tardies = I hour absence
Morning Class Grading: • Morning classes receive letter grades. • A = 90%-100% • B = 80%-89% • C = 73%-79% • Failing = below 73% • C- = 70% - 72% • D = 60% - 69% • F = < 60%
All Conversation & Culture classes will go on a field trip to Laguna Beach on Friday, July 18 (instead of classes).
Student Interest Questionnaire To help us know what your goals are in studying at UCI, we’d like you to fill out a student interest questionnaire.
Part-time students • If you are a part-time student… • If you have a tourist visa (not a student visa) and • If you’re not part of a university group • Please come and talk to me in the ESL Office about which classes you will take.
Institutional TOEFL Test • Paper and pencil test. • Date: Friday, July 25, 2:00 pm • The test is free. • The test is optional. • You may sign up for the test online at http://ucicc.weebly.com. • The last day to sign up is July 7.
Afternoon Elective Classes • Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday 2:00-3:20 pm • 6 class meetings for each class • Full-time students may take 1, 2, or no electives. • Part-time students normally will not take electives.
Today you will tell us which elective classes you want.You will receive your elective schedule in your morning class on Monday, July 7. Elective classes begin that same afternoon.
After the first elective class meeting, you may drop an elective class if you wish, but you may not add a different one in its place.The deadline for dropping an elective class is July 21.
Elective Class Grading: • Grading for electives is Pass/No Pass. • To receive a “Pass” grade… • You must attend at least 5 out of the 6 class meetings. • You must participate well.
