How the title got it’s name The title came from a question at the beginning of the book, “What happens to a dream differed?” Then they asked, “Will it dry up like a raisin or rise up like the sun.”
Main issue The main issue in the play, “A Raisin in the Sun” was racism. The family this book is directed around went through the hardships of living and dealing with racists in the environment.
The family - Walter (the son)- He was a chauffeur and was going to invest in a liquor store but instead, he gave his money to a con artist. - Beneatha (his sister)- A college student who tries to find her identity and wants to be like her friend from Nigeria. - Lena (the matriarch)- The mother figure who dreamed of buying a home.
THE BIG MOVE After the Younger family had got a little money, they moved to a new neighborhood, an all white neighborhood.
During the move When the Younger family had moved to the all- white neighborhood, they were so happy. They were just glad to get out of that roach infested apartment they lived in. Too bad everyone else didn’t feel the same way. Their neighbors didn’t want black people living in the neighborhood so they tried to get the Younger family out anyway they could, even if it meant taking a life.
After the move After the Younger family had moved into the neighborhood, they were being harassed so badly that they had to go to court. It made such an impact that officials named a court case after them.
Theme The theme of this book would be racism and how people respond to it. When the Younger family moved in the new neighborhood nobody liked them just because they were African-American.
My opinion This book was interesting. It made you feel like you were there. If you like books with people who talk about black people like they are garbage you’ll like this book.
