Basic Reporting MOF Information Management Group 2007 Module 5 – RESULTS Generating Reports
Basic Training Agenda • What we will cover: • Overview presentation • Show and tell using application • How to get to RESULT Reports • Screen navigation • Running Canned Reports • Running CSV Reports • Questions and Answers
Learning Objectives • Overview of RESULTS Reports • Run your own reports • High RESULTS report features
RESULTS Data flow Licensees e-Commerce Submits XML (text) and GML (map) Schema MOF Electronic Submission Framework Infrastructure validates information based on (automated process) schema and mapping standards ESF Framework Accepts Rejects RESULTS LRDW Rejection notice sent back to licensees
Spatial data – conversion (ROSC) • RESULTS Opening Spatial Conversion in 2004 • This project used forest cover polygons from veg layer to create opening boundaries. • Where good linkages existed between the RESULTS data and VEG, the polygons were merged to create an opening boundary as the SP image into RESULTS. • This is not considered to the be the “official” SP map. • This linework is an “approximation” linework for spatial analysis at a very rudimentary level. • ROSC had 61% success rate - converted 113,500 of 186,000 openings (as of 2004 post-ROSC conversion)
Spatial data update • Openings contains mandatory spatial requirements • new opening creation for harvested areas • any forest cover submissions • As of May 15, 2007, RESULTS had SP or FC Maps for 75% or 156,000 of 207,700 openings. 60,000 openings with forest cover maps is a smaller subset. • Overtime, there will be gradual in-filling of spatial linework through routine updates. • Some older records, if not active, if not ROSC converted will not have spatial.
Success of ESF • ESF Submission for basic obligation reporting into RESULTS has occurred since June 1, 2005 • Ministry is undergoing second year of ESF as of May 31 deadline. • ESF for RESULTS is considered a success. • As for May 15, 2007, for 2006-07 reporting: No of FG Declarations 12,800 SUs - 272,000ha Harvesting 117,000ha Surveys 503,000 ha Site Preparation 40,000ha Planting 150,000 ha This indicates that licensees are routinely sending their information throughout the year –more timely & complete information.
Increasing data usage RESULTS data linkages: • Vegetation Resource Inventory Management System – cut-in tool with automatically process forest cover submissions from RESULTS to update vegetation inventory maps • Integrated Land Resource Inventory – will display basic silviculture obligations to show other resources users where there are legal encumbrances • RESULTS data exists in LRDW – allow other government users to access textual and attribute data • Timber Supply Review – analyst use RESULTS data to build regeneration assumptions. • Supports inter-organizational initiatives such as National Forestry Database, criteria & indicator reporting & climate change.
Increase demands on data access Two sources: RESULTS – textual only - Canned pre formatted reports - .pdf - Comma Separated Values (CSV) – for importing into spreadsheet, database or statistical programs LRDW – idir only, textual & spatial - Raw database table – require baseline knowledge of RESULTS data model – advanced reporting reviews data model. - Pull data using spatial tools (ArcInfo, ArcMap). - Future work in Release 4.0 to create “views” to reduce table joins
