Students may earn a “2” if they are... …. Beginners who need assistance to perform or practice the skill and would not be able to do it without that help. Students may earn a “1” if they... are ... …. Confused and lost, even after repeated instruction. They don’t know how to begin, or their knowledge is so incomplete, that this often leads to frustration when they attempt to use the skill. After much practice, when students are “almost there” and need only occasional or minimal assistance to successfully perform the skill, they may earn a 2+.
Students may earn a “3” if they are …. Consistently able to perform the skill without assistance in order to achieve a goal. Students may earn a “4” if they are …. Students who can consistently perform the skill and do it with exceptional ease, no matter what the level of difficulty, may earn a 3+. Consistently using higher level thinking skills, such as analysis, synthesis, and integration in order to apply the skill to unfamiliar situations or in novel ways.
