A story in which the characters represents abstract qualities or ideas. For example, in westerns, the sheriff represents good, and the outlaw represents evil.
What is an ALLEGORY?
A reference to something or someone, often literary. For instance, if you were trying to instill confidence in a friend and said, "Use the force," that would be an _______ to Star Wars.
What is an ALLUSION?
A main character who opposes the protagonist, or main character, in a story or play.
What is an ANTAGONIST?
The point at which the action in a story or play reaches its emotional peak.
What is the CLIMAX?
A character who represents a certain type of person. I.e, Daniel Boone represents the early American frontiersman.
What is an ARCHETYPE?
A poem with a fictional narrator, addressed to someone whose identity the audience knows, but who doesn't say anything.
What is DRAMATIC MONOLOGUE?
A long epic poem narrating the adventures of a heroic figure. I.e., Homer's THE ODYSSEY.
What is an EPIC?
A story that illustrates a moral, often using animals as the characters--The Tortoise and the Hare, for example.
What is a FABLE?
The point of view of a piece of writing in which the narrator refers to himself as "I."
What is FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW?
Poetry with no set meter (rhythm) or rhyme scheme.
What are FREE VERSE?
A kind of style, usually of art or literature. I.e, mysteries, romances, westerns, poetry, dramas, etc . . ..
What are GENRES?
Ten-syllable lines in which every other syllable is stressed. I.e: "With like stars upon the brave night air."
What is IAMBIC PENTAMETER?
Language that conveys a certain idea by saying just the opposite.

A legend that embodies the beliefs of people and offers some explanation for natural and social phenomena.

A phrase made up of two seemingly opposite words. "Cruel kindess" is an example.

The use of words that sound like what they mean such as "buzz."
