Bacteria • One celled organism • Produce toxins (poisons) • Diseases caused by bacteria • E-coli • Lyme’s Disease • Staph Infections

Viruses • Much smaller than bacteria • Can only reproduce if inside a cell Mom I can’t go to school
Virus • Diseases caused by a virus • The Flu • Common Cold • Chicken Pox • Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Fungus • Molds, Yeasts • Common Fungal disease • Athletes Foot Keep your feet dry
Person to Person • Through direct contact • Kissing, shaking hands, any sexual act • Through Indirect contact • Sneezing, coughing
Preventing Person to Person Transmission • Wash Hands Frequently • Use Soap and water • Sneeze into your arm • Wear a condom Do this for 20+ Seconds
Contaminated Object • Any object that you can touch/ingest
Preventing Contaminated Object Transmission • Wear personal protective barriers • Gloves • Cook food thoroughly • Filter your water • Disinfect all surfaces daily
Animal Bite • Any bite from an animal can transmit a disease • Common Animal bite related diseases • Rabies- Dogs and Raccoons • Malaria- Mosquitoes • Lyme’s Disease- Deer Tick
Rabies • Passed from the biting animal through saliva • Bacteria is in the saliva • Causes brain Inflammation
Lyme’s Disease • Bacteria lives in wild rodents • Passed to humans by tick bites • Primarily passed by Deer Ticks • Hard to see with the naked eye • Lyme Symptoms
Malaria • Is a disease carried by mosquitoes • Is only found in hot wet places • No risk of Malaria transmission to you
Environment • Caused by alterations to the environment • Usually chemicals in soil or water • Can cause death or serious illness • Can be prevented • Keep chemicals away from water and soil
