  1. ANT Update

  2. New Staff - Recent • Diana Nemergut - AOE Program • Sonia Esperança - AISS Program (on detail from GEO/EAR) • Jim Swift - ARLI Program (but justifiably tied up in BRP so far) Future: • AISS candidate evaluation underway (career or rotator) • ARLI, need to take action soon (preferred model - rotation of career PD's and IPA to backfill and benefit in turn from new perspectives)

  3. New Contractor - ASC • Strong emphasis on planning • Local planning group • Upcoming Activities • AMGRF Re-competition • IDDO Re-competition • NICL situation • MOUs • NASA: LDB, ANSMET • NOAA: support of NOAA at Pole

  4. BigData and CIF21 • Earth-cube, should OPP partner (yes, but how?) • Data Enabled Science including (yes, but emphasis for OPP?) • data services – curation, meta data, access, integration, open access, standards, interoperability • data analysis – tools etc that enable data mining, manipulation, modeling simulation, visualization, decision support • data-intensive science – use of computational methods to analyze and manipulate data; algorithms and polices for cross disciplinary use and sharing and open access

  5. BigData and CIF21 (continued) • Community Research Networks (possibly participate) aim to: • establish new multidisciplinary research communities that advance exploitation of CI in research • advanced research on community research networks – e.g. What can we learn about how research networks work and how they might be developed to best advantage in the future.

  6. New Computational Infrastructure (collateral participation?) • establish new computational and data enabled resources, innovative sharing  and archiving systems etc  (hardware side of infrastructure) • development of new software tools for as a general service for application interfaces, workflows, middleware etc (software side of infrastructure) • Access and Connections to Cyberinfrastructure Facilities • combines new and upgraded network connectivity with advances in deployed networking technology from academia and industry • cybersecurity, including identify management

  7. General Thoughts • The new models that emerge from investments in these areas will inform development and deployment of leading edge network connections and access, anticipates a broad array of beneficiaries across the Foundation • Management, Assessment and Funding of CIF21: Internal language (so far) seems to have substantial top-down involvement whereas NSF does try to foster a bottom-up approach to projects that would emerge.
