WHAT IS NDA ? • The National Defence Academy is abbreviated as NDA. • It is the joint defence services training institute of the Indian Armed Forces. • The cadets of all the three services of the Indian Armed Forcesi.eThe Indian Army, The Indian Navy, The Indian Air Force train together before they go on to the respective service academy for further precommission training. • Situated in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra.
How to get into it ? • The UPSC (UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION) organises examinations twice a year for the eligible candidates to get into the services.
Eligibility criteria NATIONALITY : • All the candidates need to meet the criteria with regard to nationality to be eligible for application. To be eligible for NDA, a candidate must be either one of the following: • A citizen of India • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan • A Tibetan refugee who moved to India, before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling here permanently • A PIO (Person of Indian origin) is someone who has migrated from the countries specified below, with the intention of permanently settling in India. The nationals from the following countries would fall under this category such as Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam. • Note: It must be noted that all the foreign nationals are required to produce a certificate of NDA eligibility criteria that has been issued by the Government of India. This certificate will however not be needed in case of those candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Eligibility criteria AGE LIMIT, SEX & MARITAL STATUS : • Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for the examination and they are supposed not to marry within the training period.
Eligibility criteria EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION : For Army Wing of National Defence Academy:—12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent 6 examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy:—12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent conducted by a State Education Board or a University. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.
Eligibility criteria Physical Standards: Height and Weight Requirements Candidates must note that the minimum height measurement specified is 157 cms (162.5 cms for Air Force). For Gorkhas and those belonging to hills of the North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the minimum height will be 5 cms less than the usual figure. On the other hand, for candidates belonging to the Lakshadweep islands, the minimum height standard may be reduced by 2 cms.
Eligibility criteria Physical Standards: In case the candidate wishes to be pilot in the Air Force, the following requirements will have to be kept in mind, due to constraints of the flying vehicle: Leg Length: Minimum of 99 cms and Maximum of 120 cms Thigh Length: Minimum is not applicable while Maximum of 64 cms Sitting Height: Minimum of 81.50 cms and Maximum of 96 cms
How many times can a candidate apply for this examination? • Ans. There is no limit to the number of times you can apply for the exam as long as you are between the age of 16.5 to 19.5 years.
Training period : • The training period in NDA, Khadakwasla is three years after which Army cadets will be sent to IMA for 1 year, Air force Cadets to Air Force Academy for 1 year, and Naval Cadets to Naval Academy for 1 year.
Examination pattern : The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:—
SYLLABUS OF THE EXMAINATION : PAPER 01 : MATHEMATICS (300 MARKS) TOPICS : ALGEBRA, TRIGONOMETRY, MATRICES AND DETERMINANTS, ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY OF TWO AND THREE DIMENSIONS, DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS, INTEGRAL CALCULUS AND DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS, STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY, VECTOR ALGEBRA PAPER 02 : GENERAL ABILITY TEST (600 MARKS) PART 01: ENGLISH (200 marks) : Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency in English.
SYLLABUS OF THE EXMAINATION : PART 02: GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (400 MARKS) The question paper on General Knowledge will broadly cover the subjects : Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography and Current Events.
Books, study materials, mock tests In a run to prepare for NDA examination one should have sound knowledge of the topics studied till class 10th especially social studies. How many students appear in this exam and qualify in it and get commissioned ? • Around four lakhs, aspirants appear for NDA every year, out of which approximately 6,000 are called for SSB Interview. • Note : NDA II 2020 final result was announced on July 6, wherein, a total of 478 candidates were recommended for final selection
