Joan of Arc ~ Kelsey Eaton & Malorie Smith
Joan’s Early Life • Joan was born in January 6th, 1412 in Domremy, France. • Parents: Jacques Darc and his wife Isabelle de Vouthon. • From an early age Joan displayed a sensitive and religious attitude. • When Joan was 12 years old, she claimed to have heard “Voices of God”. The Voices told her that it was her divine mission to free her country from the English and help the dauphin gain the French throne. • They told her to cut her hair, dress in man's uniform, and to pick up the arms.
Captain Joan • Joan convinced the captain of the dauphin's forces, and then the dauphin himself of her calling. She was given troops to command and the rank of captain. • She fought against Commander Sir John Fastolfe and his troops and won.
Captain Joan (Continued..) • Joan was given a place of honor next to the king. Later, she was rewarded for her services to the country.
Joan’s Capture • In 1430, she was captured by the Burgundians. (East German tribesmen) • Tried for witchcraft and heresy. • Heresy- Action concerning God or sacred things.
Joan of Arc’s Death • On May 30, 1431, she was burned at the stake at the age of 19. • In 1456 a second trial was held and she was pronounced innocent of the charges against her. • She was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
Conclusion • Alesson learned about the story of Joan of Arc is to do what you think is right. • People did not accept the fact that a woman could lead troops so they panicked and accused her of witchcraft and heresy. • What should have been done is that they should have given her a better trial like her second trial where she was said to be innocent even though she was already dead.
