  2. M-Learning Literacy Initiativefor Incarcerated Street Children in Jaipur •An estimated “x,xxx,xxx” malnourished, abused, neglected, under or un-educated children in Jaipur, Rajasthan. XX,XXX are incarcerated every year •Juvenile Justice Act 56 of 2000 states priority to quick processing and fair treatment of street children - not strictly enforced •Difficulties bridging new social connections within caste system • Requires access to internet, technology platform, and sound mobile deliverables • Multiple languages • Access to information resources http://www.i-indiaonline.com/sc_crisis_stats.htm

  3. Incarcerated Youth • Hundreds of thousands of children leave home because of abuse by parents or other family members. Orphans, unwanted children, and runaways are incarcerated along with those that have committed crimes (for stealing food, sleeping in train station). Many suffer abuse while incarcerated in addition to malnutrition, Scabies, STDs. • “Observation homes” are usually over-crowded, and food supplies are short.

Changing the Pattern of Poverty • Partner with existing programs to meet health and welfare needs of the incarcerated children in Jaipur, Rajasthan. • •Akshaya Patra, hot lunch program • •Health and hygiene training • •eLearning Literacy Program • •Phase 2: Bollywood Industry Outreach • and Awareness Campaign Find community members to mentor and connect with children in detainment.

Bringing the World of Informationto Disadvantaged Indian Youth Modify ID and mine content from existing cyber-cafe-based literacy programs Build interface for maximum motivation, entertainment, with learning objective clear and supported with help functions. Present on a mobile platform. Local literacy mentoring. Diet, Health and Hygiene themes.

  6. Level 2: Gaining Influence and Cultural Capital with Bollywood • Identify Opinion-Leaders - Bollywood Actors, playback singers and directors demonstrate support of literacy training for a stronger India and authorize content use for learning activities. • Motivation to learn • Authenticity of message Utilize existing resources of Bollywood • offer jobs for older children • behind-scenes work • training for production, writing, etc. • paid internship
