The Symbol of Wind The sound of “the rushing of a mighty wind” Hebrew “ruach,” Greek “pneuma” = “wind,” “breath,” “spirit” Genesis 1:1-2 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
The Symbol of Wind Genesis 2:7 “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being”
The Symbol of Wind Ezekiel 37:9-10 “…Prophecy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breath upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived…”
The Symbol of Wind John 3:5-8 “Yeshua answered, Truly, truly, I say unto you, Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again.”
The Symbol of Wind John 3:5-8 “The wind blows where it will, and you hear the sound thereof, but know not where it comes from, and where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
The Symbol of Wind Like Genesis 1, here in Acts 2 we have a new creation Like Genesis 2, here in Acts 2 God is breathing life into the believers Like John 3, here in Acts 2 God is providing new life for the believers The creative power of God inaugurates a new era of spiritual life
The Symbol of Fire Like the sound of a violent rushing wind, fire was also one of the phenomena that was present on Mt. Sinai at the giving of the Law A sizeable mass that resembled a fire, clearly visible, yet not physically felt appeared. It then began to divide up into smaller “tongues” of flames of fire that then rested upon each apostle
The Symbol of Fire “And a voice sounded forth from out of the midst of the fire which had flowed from heaven, a most marvelous and awful voice, the flame being endowed with articulate speech in a language familiar to the hearers, which expressed its words with such clearness and distinctness that the people seemed rather to be seeing than hearing it. And the law testifies to the accuracy of my statement, where it is written, "And all the people beheld the voice most evidently." Philo of Alexandria
The Symbol of Fire The Fire was the Shekinah Glory: The light of Genesis 1 The “smoking furnace, and a flaming torch” in Genesis 15 The cloud by day and pillar of fire by night Ezekiel 9-11 BrithHadashah appearances
The Symbol of Fire Ezekiel 1:4 “As I looked, behold, a storm wind was coming from the north, a great cloud with fire flashing forth continually and a bright light around it, and in its midst something like glowing metal in the midst of the fire.”
The Filling of the Spirit Acts 2 is in fulfillment of what Yohanan predicted in Matthew 3:11 This also fulfilled Messiah promise given on Passover, and during his post-resurrection presence – Acts 1:8 To be filled with the Spirit is to be “controlled” by the Spirit

The Filling of the Spirit Acts 2:4 Acts 4:8 Acts 4:31 Acts 6:3 Acts 7:55 Acts 9:17 Acts 11:24 Acts 13:9, 52
