  6. Federal regulations, DOD 4160.21-M, chapter 5, calls for reutilization of excess property to the extent feasible to fill existing needs and to satisfy additional needs before initiating new procurement or repair. All DOD activities are required to screen available excess assets to identify items that could satisfy valid needs, and the military services have programs for reutilizing property by redistributing excess property across their units to meet ongoing operational needs

  7. What happens to your equipment once its turned in to your local DRMO? • DLA Disposition Services handles excess property through: • reuse • transfer • donation • sale • disposal • DLA Disposition Services has a searchable database with an inventory of over 600,000 items FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY

  8. Why Report to Excess? • Reporting of Excess Medical Equipment is unique to DoD Medical Activities because of the specialized nature of the assets • Reporting to Excess allows Medical Equipment to be shared between services more easily and quickly than through DRMO • Assets that are transferred to other DOD activities using DMLSS can be laterally transferred in DMLSS FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY

  9. Excess reporting shall be performed using DMLSS. Excess reported will be posted in the Tri-Service Medical Excess Distribution System (TRIMEDS) for a total of 45 days. Limited to the reporting service for 25 days and made available to all services after 20 days. Turn-ins of excess property are reported on DOD Form 1348, Disposal Turn-in Document, using a hard copy form that accompanies physical turn-ins of property at DRMOs or electronic reporting.
