Requirements for the Therapeutic Aromatherapist to work as a Doula • Not necessary to be a midwife • Assist with 5 – 6 deliveries under the supervision of a midwife or another doula • Knowledge of massage techniques and contra-indications to massage in pregnancy and labour • Knowledge of carrier oils and essential oils suitable in pregnancy and labour • Have ethical supplier of quality essential oils • Empathy • Decision-maker • Adaptable • Available • Good interpersonal relationship skills • Professional • Accurate record keeping
