SCIENTIFIC NAME • The Scientific name for this beautiful butterfly is “Inachis io”
Range • This is one of the most common garden butterflies, found throughout lowland England and Wales.
INTERESTING FACTS • The Peacock butterflies brownish-red wings each have a single large peacock feather-like eyespot that is used to scare predators. • The Peacock butterfly rests with its wings closed to show its almost black well camouflaged underside.
MORE INTERESTING FACTS • Female Peacock’s lay their eggs in batches of up to 500. • The wing span of a Peacock butterfly is approximately 60 mms.
What does it eat? • The adults butterflies drink nectar from flowers. • Their favorite flowers are buddleia and lavender.
