King Saul - 1 Samuel 15 Started out well… on the surface he looks like a great Christian. He prays. He offers sacrifices. He quotes the Bible. He even prophesizes His emotional life and spiritual life are out of order Unable to reflect on what is going on inside He is not self-aware Seeks others’ approval Driven by fear and jealousy

ECLDN – Emotionally Healthy Spirituality FALSE SELF SYMPTOMS • I avoid looking weak or foolish for not having the answer. • I have to be doing something exceptional to feel alive. • I have to be needed to feel alive. • I am fearful and can’t take risks. • I do what others want so they don’t get mad at me • I use knowledge and competence to cover my feelings of inadequacy. • I want my children to behave well so others will think I am a good parent. • I compare myself a lot to other people.
