Narrative Poetry continued • Shorter narrative poems are often similar in style to a short story, but have distinguishing poetic features, such as meter and alliteration • Narrative poems include epics, ballads, and idylls.
Epic Poetry • A lengthy narrative poem, usually telling a story concerning heroic deeds and/or a significant event.
Idyll • A short poem that describes rustic life. Idylls are limited to a small intimate world, and describe scenes from everyday life. These poems do not engage heroes and warfare.
Ballad • A ballad is a form of narrative poetry, set to music, outlining a plot.
