Ivan Vazov High School is one of the biggest schools in Montana Region, Republic of Bulgaria. Here we:- offer access to the widest possible range of information and knowledge according to the individual needs of our students- educate in analytical attitude to knowledge- give our students the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in practical tasks and problem solving- teach students to make informed choice and take responsibility- introduce innovative methods of teaching such as Project-based-Learning and Understanding-by-Design
At Ivan Vazov High School more than 630 students attend day, personal, individual and part-time training from grade 1 to grade 12. The students from grade 1 to grade 7 attend general education classes, after grade 7 they can choose between:- Foreign languages (English classes)- Information Technology (IT-classes)- Vocational training in the following professions: Operative Accountant, Technician-Landscaper, and Shop-Assistant
At Ivan Vazov High School the curricula, programs and schedules are approved by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science. We have established Professional Learning Communities on thematic projects which are being realized this school year. The methodological fields are “Natural and Social sciences”, “Mathematics and IT”, “Languages”, and “Primary education, Sports, Technology and Arts”.
Ivan Vazov High School is located in a municipality with fading economic and social functions. That is the reason why a part of our students are from risk groups. Students from Roma origin are taught at our school too. They have serious gaps in acquiring the school material, mainly in Bulgarian. The reasons for this are as follows:- low social status because of absence of parents who work abroad- some of the students work in order to make a living for their families This lifestyle replaces education as a core value for adolescents and this necessitates changing the methods of teaching and learning, as well as changing the communicational students’ environment in order to make the school an attractive place for young people.
A specialized professional team of pedagogues in support of the children with special educational needs works at Ivan Vazov High School. Its aim is to unleash the potential of each student for learning, personal development and successful socialization.
Ivan Vazov High School takes part in various activities in order to motivate the children to get involved more actively in school life and to attract the parents’ attention to the educational goals. The extracurricular activities offered include:- summer schools- interest clubs- a vocal group and dance ensembles- sports clubs- a theatrical formation, etc.
In 2017 Ivan Vazov High School was approved as an innovative school. The innovation is aimed at wider application of new teaching methods and more specifically at applying the interdisciplinary approach and Project-based Learning. The goals of the innovation are:- students to be placed at the center of the learning process as active participants- teachers to take the role of mentors who create the suitable environment for interesting and creative work of their students- to create an appropriate material and functional environment which can motivate students to participate in school life and to achieve effective social communication
Ivan Vazov High School has achieved significant success in the following areas: SCIENCE, ARTS, SPORTS, and PUBLIC ACTIVITY.
