Sample spaces are used in finding probability. The sample space for an experiment is all the possible outcomes. You can use {} to show sample spaces. When you need to find many possible outcomes, you can make a tree diagram. A tree diagram is one way to organize information.

There are 5 choices for mammals and 3 choices for reptiles. Multiply the number of choices in each category. 5 • 3 = 15 There are 15 possible combinations.
