  2. Did You Know? It is always difficult and painful to lose someone you love or care for.

  3. Different Kinds of Loss A. Many kinds of losses can result in emotional distress. Some losses result from rejection, the break-up of a relationship, a death, or a move.

  4. Different Kinds of Loss B. A strong emotional attachment can make loss deeply painful.

  5. Expressions of Grief A. Coping is dealing successfully with difficult changes in your life. B. A grief response is an individual’s total response to a major loss.

  6. Expressions of Grief C. The grieving process involves these stages of grief: 1. Denial or numbness 2. Emotional release 3. Anger 4. Bargaining 5. Depression 6. Remorse 7. Acceptance 8. Hope

  7. Coping with Death • To help cope with the death of someone you cared about, focus on the good things you shared and what you were able to do in the relationship. Avoid focusing on what you could or should have done.

To help others who are going through the grieving process, you can show empathy, take time to listen, and share your memories and appreciation of the person who is gone. D.
