About the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) Founded in 1998, the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana): • Is independent, non-governmental and non-profit institute dedicated to research and advocacy for the promotion of democracy, good governance and economic openness in Ghana and throughout Africa; • Its research outputs and other services are available to and used by governmental and non-governmental agencies, Africa regional bodies, development partners as well as researchers and the general public.

About CDD-Ghana (contd.) • CDD-Ghana is also the home of the Afrobarometer - An African-led independent and non-partisan research project that measures the social, political, and economic atmosphere in Africa. The surveys are repeated regularly, thus, making it possible to make both cross-country and cross time comparisons; • Afrobarometer results are shared with decision makers, policy advocates, civic educators, journalists, researchers, donors and the general public.

  4. CDD-GHANA Networks, Partnerships and Collaboration The Center engages in extensive international networking and collaborations in pursuit of its objectives. CDD-Ghana Partnership with and Collaboration with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) The Center’s Executive Director has been a member of the Index Technical Committee of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG), and currently, member of Index Advisory Council: http://www.moibrahimfoundation.org/ • CDD Ghana provides an indicator for the Ibrahim Index of African Governance: http://www.moibrahimfoundation.org/iiag/ Sanctions : http://www.moibrahimfoundation.org/downloads/2012-IIAG-data-report.pdf • The Center has hosted two previous programs to release the IIAG in Ghana. The first program was in 2010, the second in May 2012.

CDD-Ghana Partnership with and Collaboration with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) • Through partnership with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (and other donors), Round 5 of Afrobarometer surveys have been expanded to cover 35 African countries, representing over two-thirds of African countries. This has made the Afrobarometer the first pan-African databank of citizens’ views and voices on a range of governance issues; • The findings of the Afrobarometer are to be fed into future installments of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG).

CDD-Ghana and the Governance for Development in Africa Residential School in Accra (May 6-10, 2013) • CDD-Ghana is collaborating with the Center of African Studies (CAS) of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London to present the 2013, supported by the MIF; • The Residential School is aimed at building skills and developing talent to enhance the ability of citizens to improve the quality of governance in their countries; • The twenty-eight (28) participants in this intensive 5-day program of seminars and workshops drawn from twelve (12) African countries will explore new ideas and share experiences on good governance and development.

  8. The Governance for Development in Africa Residential School in Accra (May 6-10, 2013) • The lectures will be delivered by academics and practitioners from the UK and Africa; • I will be speaking on the topic - “Democratic politics as an asset and a liability for the governance of oil/natural resource governance in Africa: the Ghana case” on Tuesday, May 7, 10:45am to 12:45pm; • For myself and the Center’s research staff participating this school, this is a great opportunity to learn from the lecturers and fellow participants, and to share knowledge with them on how to think about and how to improve governance for development in Africa.
