Bedbug Identification • Size - appleseed • Color– reddish brown • Shape– flat & oval • Males - pointed abdomens • Females - rounded abdomens. • Odor – sweet & musty • Movement - crawl
Eggs Pear-shaped & white 300 in one female’s lifetime Attach to surfaces & hatch within 10-14 days Nymphs “Young” bedbugs Smaller & lighter in color Stage lasts 6 weeks Adult Life Cycle
Bedbug Feeding • Live on human or animal blood • Feed at night • Pierce skin and suck blood • Feed for 3-12 minutes • Swell and turn bright red after feedings • Can live over a year without feeding

Prevention of Bedbugs • Eliminate clutter • Vacuum regularly • Report cracks, crevices, and holes to be sealed • Inspect secondhand items before bringing home • Place protectors over pillows, mattresses, and box springs

If You See Bedbugs… • Report to management IMMEDIATELY! • Clean & vacuum area • Wash clothes & linens in HOT water • Dry in HIGH heat for 20 minutes • Limit visitors to prevent spreading • Last Resort: discard infested belongings
