CPC30611 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating To obtain a painter’s license in Queensland you will need to complete Certificate III Painting and Decorating, and a Business Management Course. Certificate III Painting and Decorating is the nationally recognised qualification for painters and can be obtained by completing an apprenticeship, or by a skills assessment called Recognition of Prior Learning. Description This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work. Occupational - Painter and decorator. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Note: Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. Who is the course for? CPC30611 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating is for new and existing workers who are currently employed in a relevant position and wanting to work toward completing the qualification. 1.Current workers operating in the painting and decorating industry either on residential and commercial construction sites 2.Who want or require formal qualifications to obtain a license to work in the painting and decorating industry as a ‘Painter and Decorator’ 3.Where this work is undertaken either as employees or contractors (sub) These workers will: •Be currently employed and consequently have access to an operative work site and all resources required to undertake their work functions (and the training).   2. •Be over 18 years old As students these workers will: •Be currently working so will require on-work site training. •Be looking to have their previous and current skills and knowledge recognised i.e. CT & RPL (see below) with remaining skills and knowledge trained and assessed on site through gap training. Training and assessment methods: Delivery is through a combination of face to face, self-paced and work-based learning Course duration: The course is structured to be delivered over 27 months however students can take up to 4 years if necessary Course cost: $15,000 Payment plan: 10 monthly payments per year of $500 over 3 years RPL cost: $300 administration fee, plus $150 per unit assessment fee. Gap fees for training are charged at $490 per unit. Location: All training occurs in the workplace under the supervision of a workplace supervisor. This may be your employer or a nominated person. The supervisor liaises with the trainer/assessor. All work-based (practical assessment) takes place in the workplace and any theoretical assessments may occur offsite. Pathways into the Qualification Further training pathways from this qualification may lead to one of the following Certificate IV level qualification •CPC40611 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Specialist Trades) •CPC40408 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Sales) •CPC40708 Certificate IV in Building and Construction Resources required: Students will need to provide their own workplace safety clothes and shoes. All other resources will be supplied by the employer or sourced by the RTO. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Recognition of Prior Learning is the process of formal recognition for skills and knowledge gained through previous learning such as: • • • Life experiences Previous formal learning Employment You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning for part or all your intended study, based on your previous experiences and learning.   3. Credit Transfer You may be eligible for a credit transfer if you have previously undertaken training through a Registered Training Organisation. COURSE FORMAT AND PACKAGING RULES The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in: 27 units of competency: •23 core units •4 elective units. A maximum of two of the four required elective units may be substituted by selecting relevant units of competency from any Certificate III or IV construction qualification or qualification in another endorsed Training Package. Some units in this qualification may have prerequisite requirements, which must be met when packaging the qualification.
