15. History of Philadelphia Summary- It started out with William Penn in the 1600s. Then in 1776, Philadelphia became famous for the meeting for the Declaration of Independence. Also, Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride, and the Liberty bell. For a short time the city was the capital, and they were once the biggest city in the U.S. After the capital was moved to Washington D.C. Philadelphia’s population decreased, but the city still was a strong historical landmark. They are very strong politically and will always be remembered.

17. Two People Who Influenced Community Benjamin Franklin influenced the Philadelphia society through press, editorials, and strong words. Some of his inventions now originate from Philadelphia, and certain important historical landmarks. For example, Join or Die the political cartoon, and the rocking chair. On the topic of rocking chairs, Betsy Ross also influenced the Philadelphia community. She sat along side George Washington and many other famous men. She helped to inspire many people who lived through the Revolution. Most importantly, was her work on the flag. Her hard work and dedication was very patriotic. Continuing on, she lived in Philadelphia her whole life, and the only records of her home are in Philadelphia.

19. Proposal/Conclusion In our opinion, Southwestern PA should take more advantage of its industrial and economic past. Like Philadelphia, we should start highlighting historical and important places. In Pittsburgh this could be our steel past and the Ohio River Valley was crucial to winning battles. Also, Pittsburgh once was a famous Fort and we, as a city, could highlight that to attract tourists. Planning this road trip was a very interesting experience for us, and we learned much about Philadelphia, its past, and how to plan a road trip.
