EQUIPMENT SELECTION COMPRESSORS • Fixed-speed compressors found in traditional HVAC systems operate at two states, off or 100% on. This wastes energy during part load conditions which is where most systems operate 99% of the time. • This includes 1, 2 or 3 stage compressors that cannot compare to the full range variable capacity of a VFD rotary screw chiller today. • Most chillers installed 20 years ago were rated near 1.3 kW/ton performance which is a 8 EER.
