  3. Two bin system 1. Paper and card. 2. Everything else

  4. Both taken to a material recycling facility (MRF)

  5. Material is sorted by machine

  6. Magnets Separate the ferrous metals e.g. tin cans.

  7. Eddy current separators These separate the non-ferrous metalse.g. aluminium cans.

  8. Ballistic separators Throw material up and forward over screens to sort material into light and heavy material also cleaning it of dust and dirt.

  9. Trommels A rotating cylinder separates material by size.

  10. Air knives A directed blast or flow of air that is used to separate light materials from heavier particles as they move along a conveyor or that have been blown into a column. It operates just like a hair drier.

  11. This technology separates the recycling from your general waste

  12. 80% is recycled from your general waste

  13. Once the various types of material are sorted

  14. It is made into bales

  15. The baler crushes and wraps the material

  16. Making it easier to transport

  17. They are sent to a variety of users

  18. Paper

  19. Is made back into paper

  20. Then back into newspapers and magazines

  21. And other paper products

  22. Aluminium cans

  23. Are melted into ingots

  24. Or made into sheets

  25. Then made back into cans

  26. And other products

  27. Cardboard is pulped

  28. Then made into new cardboard

  29. And not just boxes

  30. Steel cans

  31. Are made into new cans

  32. Or building steel

  33. Plastic bottles

  34. Can be made back into plastic bottles

  35. Or other (not so obvious) products

  36. Plastic film comes in a wide variety of types

  37. It can be recycled into a variety of plastic film

  38. The organic fines are processed into a refuse derived fuel
