  2. Why did it take archaeologists centuries to learn about the civilizations of Mesoamerica?

  3. It is because in this area of the world there are many dense forests and trees that hid the ruins of these ancient civilizations for centuries.

  5. The Yucatan is made up of limestone. Overtime rainfall dissolved the limestone in some places creating many underground streams and caves. When the roof of ground over these streams and caves finally collapsed these sink holes or natural wells were created.
