FACEBOOK • Facebook users can create: Personal Profiles and Group Pages • Content sharing, in particular; photos, videos, events and links to information • Offers a more secure and contained environment for school and classroom Group Pages • According to 2013 Pew Research: “94% of teen social media users said they had a Facebook profile, and 81% said Facebook is the profile they use most often.”
PINTEREST • Create pin boards with content that is heavily photo driven • Great for teaching history related content about a particular person, genre or subject • Excellent tool for creating a simplified version of an online portfolio for showcasing student work • Wonderful way to curate open source content available online around a specific topic
GOOGLE+ • Part of an entire suite of Google tools, Google+ includes an interactive community (similar to Facebook) who follow in circles • Google Hangout – video conferencing. Up to 10 people can interact. Anyone invited can watch • Google Connected Classrooms – take a virtual field trip! • Google Cultural Institute – Discover exhibits and museum collections virtually
TWITTER • Twitter consists of short 140 character tweets with photo, video and link sharing in a feed • @Handle #Hashtag “Favorite” • Follow others, retweet & favorite content, respond to others to further engage in conversation • Fantastic for information gathering, connecting with people/organizations, asking questions and a teaching/learning tool in the classroom • #TwitterChats (#EduTues, #STEAM, #ArtsEdTech, #ArtsEd, #EduChat)
