SALT BUDGET (REGION 1) salinifying freshening TEND HADV
SALT BUDGET (REGION 1) MLD SSS Salinifying: TEND=SSF+HADV freshening TEND=SSF+VDIFF Overall TEND=SSF+HADV+VDIFF Go in this season for a local balance
SALT BUDGET (REGION 2) salinifying freshening
SALT BUDGET (REGION 2) salinifying: TEND=SSF+HADV Freshening: TEND=SSF+VDIFF Overall TEND=SSF+HADV+VDIF Go in this season for a local balance
SALT BUDGET (REGION 3) salinifying salinifying freshening
SALT BUDGET (REGION 3) Overall local balance! TEND≈SSF+VDIFF
SALT BUDGET (REGION 4) COMPLICATED
SALT BUDGET (REGION 4) COMPLICATED Overall: complex balance in Panama Bight TEND=SSF+HADV+VDIFF+VADV
REGION 3 SALT BUDGET SUMMARY Overall local balance! TEND=SSF+VDIF {HADV+VADV compensate in August} SSS MLD
Summary • Regions 1&2: • salinification: TEND~ SSF+HADV (non-local); • freshening: TEND~SSF+VDIF (local) • Region 3: total advection is weak and the balance is local: TEND~SSF+VDIF throughout the year • HADV cancels VADV in August • some missing Tehuantepec effects in DJF due to forcing • Region 4: All terms contribute in Panama Bight Interannual variability: Grad student, Ben Johnson, is producing a new simulation driven by interannually varying CORE forcing (1979-2010+). Should be ready by June.
