The 26th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial and“19 Games—AIDS.ART.LIFE” Contemporary Art Exhibition Opening Ceremony INVITATION Dear Colleagues and Friends: Marie Stopes International China is pleased to invite you to the 26th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial and “19 Games—AIDS.ART.LIEF” Contemporary Art Exhibition Opening Ceremony. Theme: Art. AIDS. Life Time and Date:17:00, May 17th 2009 Location:T.ART CENTER, 798 Art District(Map attached) May 17th, 2009 marks the 26th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. Started in 1983, the Candlelight Memorial is an annual event to honor the lives lost and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The candlelight not only represents the memory of friends and family who have passed away from HIV/AIDS but also signifies hope for a better future. As one of the oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV/AIDS awareness in the world, it is an excellent opportunity to educate and encourage greater community involvement in HIV/AIDS prevention, control and care. The theme of this Candlelight Memorial activity is “AIDS.ART.LIEF”. The exhibition will showcase a range of artworks developed by several well-known Chinese contemporary artists and students after communicating with people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Through these unique artworks viewers will experience different reflections of the disease, its impact on life and those living with HIV/AIDS. The “19 Games—AIDS.ART.LIEF” Contemporary Art Exhibition will run from May 17th to June 14th. During this time a series of themed activities will be held, providing the community a chance to further engage with these contemporary artists, students and people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Your participation can help raise public awareness of the issues facing people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and encourage all sectors of society to join in the fight against HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS does not threaten one country or one type of person, it is a challenge that faces us all and threatens our world. We need to face the pandemic together. So, on this special day, let’s face the reality of HIV/AIDS hand in hand and support a more healthier and respectful world. Yours sincerely, Country Representative Marie Stopes International China May 11th, 2009 Supporting Agencies:United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS(UNAIDS), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund(UNICEF), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), Marie Stopes International China (MSIC), Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC) China, Family Health International (FHI), China-America AIDS project, T.ART Center and the Communication University of China.
