  5. SOME WAYS TO TALK ABOUT THE MISSIONAL CHURCH ……….. • God’s Mission Focused Congregation • Mission Centered Congregation • The Beloved Community • A Worshipping and Reconciling Community • God’s People Doing God’s Mission • Congregation Centered on God’s Mission

What Some People Say…. • A community of people who truly experience the love of God, and out of that accept, love, and is doing. • A group of people who are constant disciples, following and sharing the word and modeling Jesus Christ, in their own communities and in the world. • A praying church; Empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach out to its community of believers: its neighbors, around the world and /or wherever the church lives out their lives daily. • One beggar telling another where to find bread; One lonely heart finding another in community; God’s community sharing god’s love (forgiveness, peace, resources) at home and around the world; Sees and shares beyond itself; Seeks to take seriously god’s call and claim given us in Jesus Christ; God’s love flowing through us to the world. • An unordinary motley group of people who are known to their neighbors next door and even to strangers far away as loving, praying, welcoming, listening, honest, peacemakers and justice seekers – people who share openly that they are this way because of Jesus and they just want to be part of what god is doing. • A church who knows who they are and whose they are, who desire for others to know who they are and whose they are…GOD’s.

  9. Missional Church Is About……. • YOU And Your CONGREGATION - Having a conversion experience - Walking with God through worship and praise - Discovering God’s call on your life - Aligning your life with the mission of God - Daily living incarnationally

What does our scriptures say??…. • Genesis 12:1-3 (Sarah/Abraham) - To have a people. • Luke 4:18-19 (Jubilee text) - To set things right in a broken and sinful world. • Luke 8:43ff (woman with the hemorrhage) - To redeem and heal the world. • Ephesians 2:13-22 - To reconcile. • John 10:7-10 - To give us abundant and full life. • II Corinthians 5:18-6:1 (ambassadors of reconciliation) - To be reconciled to us and bring about restoration. • John 3:16 (God loves the world) - To redeem the world for everlasting life.

  12. WHAT IS A “MISSIONAL CHURCH”?…….. It is………. vA church that is shaped by participating in the mission of God vA church that lets God send us as Jesus was sent, to proclaim and be a sign of the reign of God vA church where mission permeates its whole life: ·To discern the churches calling ·To worship God, our ruler ·To witness holistically ·To train for discipleship ·To show what God wants for the world vA church that is a contrast (different) community in the midst of a changing culture vA church that is willing to take risks in the power of the Holy Spirit, in light of God’s final victory
